Percona Live London 2014, November 3-4 . Galera keynote, sessions and tutorial

We will be joining Percona Live UK again in November! Please come and meet Galera developers and experts at our keynote, sessions and booth!

Percona Live London Keynote:

Synchronous Revelation (by Alexey Yurchenko)

4 November 9:40am – 10:05am

What is synchronous replication? For many it is just the same as asynchronous, only safer and slower. But is it all that is to that? (At this point you’re probably guessing “no?”) In this talk Alex will ponder eternal questions: what is “synchronous”? is it “replication”? and how new MySQL server UUIDs are relevant to that?

Percona Live London session:

Galera Cluster New Features (by Seppo Jaakola)

4 November 3:10pm – 4:00pm @ Cromwell 3 & 4

Galera Cluster for MySQL is a revolutionary step forward in MySQL high availability. It provides synchronous, multimaster, active-active clustering for InnoDB. No longer do you have to make trade-offs between data integrity/durability and failover time, nor do you have to accept a performance hit because you need high availability.

Galera Cluster version 3 was released in November 2013, and since then work on next-generation Galera clustering version 4 has started. This session presents an overview of Galera Cluster features and benefits and walks through release 3 and future new features coming with the release 4.

Other Galera sessions:

Moving a MySQL infrastructure with 130k QPS to Galera

(by Walter Heck OlinData)

4 November 2:10pm – 3:00pm @ Cromwell 1 & 2

The story of how we moved an environment from mariadb 5.3 with mmm to galera with pxc. The cluster uses haproxy as a load balancer, is fully puppetised and consists out of 4 powerful physical servers. In the session we outline the approach we designed and executed to move the whole cluster from mmm to pxc without downtime.

Percona XtraDB Cluster in a nutshell : Hands on tutorial!

(by Frederic Descamps and Kenny Gryp, Percona)

3 November 9:00am – 12:00pm @ Orchard 1

— This is a full day tutorial —
Percona XtraDB Cluster is a high availability and high scalability solution for MySQL clustering. Percona XtraDB Cluster integrates Percona Server with the Galera synchronous replication library in a single product package which enables you to create a cost-effective MySQL cluster. This tutorial will cover the following topics:
– Migration from standard MySQL Master-Slave Architecture to PXC
– Configuration differences between standard MySQLl and Xtradb Cluster
– How to add a node and what does SST, IST mean ? How to use them ?
– How to backup the cluster
– How to monitor the cluster
– 2 nodes servers- Why this isn’t ideal but reasons and steps to setting it up anyway.
– Galera Arbitrator: Defining what it is.
– How to maintain the cluster
– Setting up load balancing for Xtradb cluster
– How to handle the cluster in the cloud
– Tips and tricks – … and if available cover PXC 5.6 with Galera 3 !!
Attendees will be guided during the session and will perform all changes and tests in a VirtualBox environment. Attendees should bring a reasonably powerfull laptop able to handle at least 3 linux VM and have Virtualbox installed.
