More MariaDB releases, right before the webinar!

So we initially planned to use MariaDB Server 11.7 for the upcoming webinar on 19 February, but we decided that it would be wise to upgrade to 11.8 RC which just became a release candidate. 11.7 is a short term release, and it comes with the all important Vector support, which we are pleased to tell you just works out of the box with Galera Cluster.

However, MariaDB Server 11.8 will be a long-term support release, and while we have been working on many features from a Galera Cluster standpoint, we aren’t sure if we will make the cut-off especially since it is now already a release candidate.

We consider a nice new improvement that the default character set is now utf8mb4, not latin1 – something to take note for people upgrading from older releases.

From a pure Galera Cluster standpoint 2 features standout:

  1. Automatic SST user account management – so your SSTs can happen easily with Mariabackup
  2. The removal of wsrep_load_data_splitting, since there is no reason to have transaction splitting when you have a large LOAD DATA INFILE now; just use streaming replication

Hope to see you at the webinar on 19 February.
