Galera Cluster for MySQL 5.7.38 released

Codership is pleased to announce a new Generally Available (GA) release of the multi-master Galera Cluster for MySQL 5.7, consisting of MySQL-wsrep 5.7.38 (release notes, download). This release incorporates all changes to MySQL 5.7.38, adding a synchronous option for your MySQL High Availability solutions.

In MySQL 5.7.38, we now distinguish between unset ssl_mode and ssl_mode explicitly set to “DISABLED”, because previously ssl_mode=DISABLED was ignored in the xtrabackup-v2 script.

This is a rare release where you are also meant to continue using the Galera replication library 3.37 implementing the wsrep API version 25, from the previous release, as there was no changes made to the Galera replication library for this release.

This release is also the last for Debian 9 “Stretch” as it has reached End of Life (EOL) on June 30 2022.

We have opted not to release MySQL 8.0.29 as we believe Galera Cluster should never succumb to data loss or data corruption. In 8.0.29, ALGORITHM=INSTANT became the default, and this naturally would affect anyone who uses Percona XtraBackup (we have CLONE SST as an option, but we also know many users using the XtraBackup method). A good tracker bug is mysql#107941, and the post: Percona XtraBackup 8.0.29 and INSTANT ADD/DROP Columns. There is a fairly invasive patch that essentially changes InnoDB to use INPLACE/COPY unless INSTANT is explicitly specified. We will keep you posted with regards to MySQL 8.0.30, something we will look forward to in the next release schedule.

Please download the latest software and update your Galera Clusters! We continue to provide repositories for popular Linux distributions, and we encourage you to use them. Contact us more more information about what Galera Cluster Enterprise Edition can do for you.
